DELHI, LA – James William "Sonny" Hosea, a resident of Delhi, LA, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. He was 85 years young.
Sonny was born in Delhi, Louisiana on October 26, 1939, and passed away at Stoneybrook Senior Care Home in West Monroe, Louisiana on December 24, 2024.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, 11:00 AM to1:00 PM at Delhi Presbyterian Church with the service to follow at 1:00 PM. Burial with be at Newton Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wade Hosea, Ryan James, Tyler Hosea, Alec Mann, Glynn Weems Paul Butler, Larry Sanches and Ricky Clay.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Butch Hosea, Donald Myers & Bruce Monroe.
Sonny is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie & Sadie Hosea, his wife of 60 years, Frances Donahoe Hosea, sister, Lorraine House, 4 brothers, Clyde Hosea, Robert Hosea, Tombo Hosea & Shelton Hosea. Sonny was a member of Delhi Presbyterian Church. He served in the US Army from 1957 – 1961. He was a devoted and beloved husband, daddy, and Papaw.
His favorite pastime was hunting. He was well known in Northeast Louisiana for his award-winning trial rabbit dogs and rabbit hunting skills. In December 2022, he retired from Delta America to take care of our mom. The most rewarding stint of his career was the last 30years with Delta America. His passion for the mentally handicapped adults was just a glimpse of his love and compassion for people.
Sonny is survived by two children, James "Bo" Hosea (Lisa), Catherine Paige Hosea Mann (Greg); grandchildren, Wade & Kelly Hosea, Tyler Hosea, Ryan & Taylor James, Alec & Ashley Mann, and great grandchildren; Keaton, Mason, Mills, Oakley, Lily and soon to be Lucy; brother, Howard Hosea (Diane) and sisters, Shirley Reese (Robby) and Sharon Dendy and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family.
The family would like to thank Buddy & Lisa Hughes and the staff at Stoneybrook for the extraordinary care of our dad the past 7 months.
