James "Jim" Hughes

July 31, 1954 – August 6, 2025

James "Jim" Hughes, 71, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025.

Born on July 31, 1954, in Montgomery, Alabama, Jim spent his early years in various places;
including San Antonio, Texas, Dunnellon, Florida, and even Tripoli, Libya; before eventually
settling in Orlando, the place he called home for most of his life.

Jim worked for many years as an electrician, a career that reflected both his sharp mind and
steady hands. After retiring, he enjoyed dedicating more time to his many passions, especially
building and flying remote-controlled planes and helicopters. He was also a gifted singer, sharing
his voice for years in the choir at St. Andrew Church.

Jim was also known for his great honesty, and the rare ability to connect with anyone. He could
strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He had a big heart. Jim was deeply supportive,
especially of his son, and wore his emotions openly, which made him all the more genuine and
lovable.

He was known for his deep compassion. Together with his wife Carol, he would regularly
prepare and distribute care bags filled with basic survival items and money for people
experiencing homelessness; a quiet act that touched many lives.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol, who passed away earlier this year, and his
brother Tony. He is survived by his son, John and his sister, Lee; and many friends and loved
ones who will miss his kind spirit.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
