James Jackson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stier-Israel Funeral Home - Louisville on Jan. 29, 2026.
James W. Jackson, age 90, of Louisville, Ohio, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 in his home. He was born on October 7, 1935, in Canton, Ohio, to the late James and Dorothy (Whitacre) Jackson.
Jim graduated from Louisville High School in 1954. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Louisville American Legion. He spent 37 years with The Hoover Company, where he built many lasting friendships and retired with pride. Jim embraced life fully. He was a dedicated coach, an avid gardener, and someone who truly cherished the people around him. His faith was central to his life; he was an active member of Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville and especially enjoyed Bible study, Sunday worship and his fellowship with the Band of Brothers. Jim also loved the outdoors and spent many joyful days hunting and fishing. While coaching baseball for many years, he had the privilege of coaching several state champion baseball teams and developing many lasting relationships with his players and coaches through the years. He was very proud to be inducted into Ohio Hot Stove Baseball Hall of Fame.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years and the love of his life, Lynn Ellen (Messenheimer) Jackson; two sisters, Juanita Bowe and Jackie Jackson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Jackson. He is survived by two sons, Andy (Lynn) Jackson and John (Michelle Coppa) Jackson; his brother, Bob Jackson; a sister, Julia Wickersham; his beloved granddaughters Janelle, Nicole, Kelsey (Turk), Jessica, Grace, and Ellie and his great-grandson, Blake. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many caretakers and cleaning lady's that provided such wonderful and compassionate care to Jim over the last several years.
A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3rd, at Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville, with Pastor Scott Carney officiating. The family will greet friends from 10-11am Tuesday morning at the Church and at a luncheon, in the church hall, immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paradise United Church of Christ or Katie's Kids https://www.katieskids14.org Online condolences may be shared at www.stierisraelfuneralhome.com

I had the privilege of being coached by Jim in high school, but I'm especially glad I got to know him at Paradise Church for many years.
