Jamie was born on October 1, 1957, to James O. Black and Gloria B. Hasty in Shreveport, Louisiana, and passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Jamie dedicated 37 years of his hardworking life to Saia Motor Freight, where he was affectionately known as "Poke Chop" by his coworkers. His strong work ethic and unwavering dedication to his job reflected his character—someone who poured everything he had into whatever he did.

Jamie had a warm and inviting personality, always bringing smiles and laughter to every gathering. He viewed everyone he met as family; if he knew you, he loved you deeply. His unconditional love extended far beyond the conventional bounds, weaving a tapestry of kindness that brought people together.

A passionate sports fan, Jamie had an unwavering allegiance to the Washington Redskins and an affinity for LSU football, proudly cheering for his teams with a fervor that inspired those around him. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his passion for cooking, often gathering his loved ones to share meals and create cherished memories in the kitchen. These moments filled with joy, laughter, and delicious food are treasures that will be fondly remembered.

His legacy will live on in every meal shared, every cheer for his beloved teams, and every laugh shared among family and friends. Jamie will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, James O. Black and Gloria B. Surry, and his sister, Margarete McDaniel. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Black; sons, Josh Wise and wife, Kimberly, Adam Black; siblings, Donna Wiggins, Mike Vucinovich, Bonnie Bryant and Tina Black; grandchildren, Tristan Wise and wife, Haley, Chase Wise and wife, Natalie, Kailey Wise, Alex Black, Cooper Black, and Andi Black; great-grandchildren, Dante Anthony Wise and Camilla Louise Wise along with a host of other family and friends.
