With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Neil Jestes, who left us on September 15, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on May 27, 1934, in Shell Creek, TN, James was a dedicated member of the Gastonia community and a treasured husband, father, and friend.
James was a proud U.S. Army veteran and actively involved in the American Legion in Bessemer City. He found great joy in serving his country and his community. After retiring from Eastern Airlines with an impressive 25 years under his belt as a Ramp Service Man, James remained a familiar face around town with his infectious smile and kind heart.
Family was everything to James. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Maxine Vance Jestes, daughter, Karen Bennett (John), son, Bryan Jestes (Tiffany), daughter, Debbie Jestes, and son Michael Jestes, grandchildren, Abigail Bennett, Austin Bennett, Kevin Schmidt and Cody Jestes, who will miss his warmth and humor dearly. He was also a proud member of Flint Groves Baptist Church, where he shared his faith and camaraderie with fellow parishioners.
In addition to his roles as a family man and veteran, James was a member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge and the Gastonia Moose Lodge, where he forged lasting friendships and participated in community events.
All services will be held private by the family.
James was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lillie Jestes, brothers, Ralph and Gene Jestes.
