It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Cook Nance Jr., who left us on September 11, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 24, 1945, in North Carolina, John lived a full life that left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
John was a devoted father to his daughters, Sandra Nance (Tim), Donna Duncan (Todd), and Tracy Stevens; sister, Elaine Causby; his father, John Nance; grandchildren, Brittany Watkins, Hanna Cullen, Erin Duncan, Hailey Stevens, Savannah Stevens, and Victoria Duncan; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Watkins, Riley Cullen, Madison Watkins, and Bryson Watkins. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Raised in Gastonia, NC, he was known for his kind heart and friendly spirit, always willing to lend a hand or share an encouraging word. He was the former owner and operator of John Nance Trucking. He was a big NASCAR fan, and loved spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved very much. He also loved working in his yard, keeping it immaculate. He was a loving father, grandfather, and husband before his wife passed.
John's family will gather to celebrate his life, and we invite all who knew him to join in honoring his memory. The graveside service will take place at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Gaston Memorial Park -1200 S New Hope Rd., Gastonia, NC 28054, where he will be laid to rest.
We remember John not just for the years he lived but for the love he shared and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished by his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by the wife and love of his life for 49 years, Freida Nance; mother, Lillian Nance; brother, Donald Blanton; and sister, Linda Mullinax.
