James Allen Cain, 73, of Topeka, passed away on November 15, 2024 peacefully at home.
He was born on May 4, 1951 to Raymond and Frances (Lampe) Cain in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Jim graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1969 he then joined the Marines. After his time in the service he worked for several Goodyear retail stores in Kansas. He worked for Laird Noller Ford as a Service Adviser and Gregg Tire. He returned to military service in the Army National Guard was a full time training NCO, and recruiter for a while. Jim went back to school at Washburn University where he graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, all while working full time for the United States Postal Service at night. The degree helped him get a position at the VAMC in Topeka as a Compensation and Pension Manager where he later retired from.
He met Wendy J. Smith and they were married three months later on February 14, 1983. Together they raised four children.
Jim loved sports, watching all and participating in softball, baseball, bowling, golfing, and he also loved traveling and camping in the RV. His real love was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife; Wendy, sons; Christopher (Lisa) Cain, Daniel (Jessie) Cain, Aaron (Sarah) Cain, daughter; Casey Cain, grandchildren; Cain, Ronin, Mavis, Colson, brothers; Dennie (Mary) Cain, Jerry Cain, sister; Linda Allen, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother; Frances Cain, father; Raymond Cain, , sister; Colleen Clark, brother; John Cain in infancy.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024, 5:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, 1:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel - Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Graveside Service will immediately follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
