James "Jim" Michael Cloos was born on November 14, 1955, in Ortonville, MN, to John "Jack" and Joan (Cordie) Cloos. Jim graduated from Ortonville High School in 1974. After high school, Jim worked various jobs until he started working at the Big Stone Power Plant in 1979, where he remained working until his retirement on December 31, 2018.

In 1985, Jim married his beloved wife, Jolene Aden. They went on to have three beautiful children, Kendra, Brenna, and Adam.

Jim loved everything outdoors. You could usually find him doing some of his most favorite past times which included archery, hunting, fishing, bowfishing, gardening, going on the pontoon, and teaching his grandchildren all about these things. They enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and watching them grow. They always came to different events that included dance recitals, baseball games, birthday parties, football games, and preschool graduations. He also loved working on and driving his classic 67’ Camero and 2017 Challenger. Jim and Jolene liked to drive their cars to different events like Cool Deadwood Nights and the 2015 Power Tour. Jim was a member of the Milbank Valley Archers and he enjoyed teaching the 4-H archers how to shoot a bow. He loved spending time with his family and friends going to the lake, traveling, and participating in “happy hours” at Greg and Jeanne’s.

Jim, Jolene, Kendra, Brenna, Adam and their spouses were able to enjoy a trip to Hawaii together in March 2024. They spent lots of time together whale watching, snorkeling, seeing the sights, and of course eating and drinking. They even had family pictures taken on the beach!

Jim leaves behind his loving wife, Jolene Cloos of Milbank, SD; his son Adam (Erin) Cloos of Omaha, NE; his daughters: Brenna (Tyler) Fredrichsen of Big Stone City, SD; Kendra (Kyle) Lakey of Galesville, WI; siblings: Roger (Lori) Cloos of Watertown, SD; Todd (Candee) Cloos of Big Stone City, SD; Janet (Tom) Waibel of St. Cloud, MN; Cathy (Barry) Gerber of Norfolk, NE; Dave Cloos of Big Stone City, SD; sister-in-law Denise Cloos of Jordan, MN; grandchildren: Parker Fredrichsen, Kinsley Fredrichsen, Zoey Fredrichsen, Jack Lakey, and Carson Lakey. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Joan Cloos, and brother Bob Cloos.
