James "Jim" D. Plunkett, 66, of Parkville, Missouri passed away on February 16, 2024.
Jim was born on March 7, 1957 in Columbia, Missouri to parents, Robert and Mary Jane Plunkett. As a young boy, Jim's family relocated to Olathe, Kansas, where he spent his formative years, attending elementary through high school. He spent a short time in college before succumbing to his entrepreneurial spirit. In 1984, he became owner and operator of JPI Glass, formerly Jim Plunkett Inc. On October 25, 1986 Jim married the love of his life, Sherri, with whom he worked alongside, and from this marriage they were blessed with three children. If running a business didn't occupy his time enough, from 2004 to 2012, he held the seat of Platte County Commissioner. Jim and Sherri sold JPI Glass in 2016 and retired in 2019. Always a hard worker and excellent craftsman, Jim was a proud member of the Associated Builders and Contractors local chapter. He acquired a family farm in Trimble, Missouri where his workmanship was showcased all throughout their sprawling property, which included the farmhouse and barn that Jim hand painted by brush inside and out, as well as the 5 acres of wildflowers that he had planted that became home to a host of bees and other wildlife. It was soon after the renovation of the farm that Jim had a devasting accident which left him paralyzed. Though this rendered him unable to perform many of the activities he loved, in true Jim fashion, he bravely fought back to the best of his ability. He continued to enjoy his favorite pastimes, which were going to the movies on a weekly basis and spending time with his loved ones. He also continued to be strong in his faith as he had attended various churches throughout his life and been involved with the Children's Ministry at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Though he endured and battled with many health complications he never lost the qualities that made him who he was, which were being a hard worker with great integrity, and being a wonderful, loving husband and father.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Sherri; children, Andrea L. Plunkett, Alexandra L. Plunkett-Fitzgerald (Quentin), Adam K. Plunkett and Robert D. Plunkett; grandson, Dylan Plunkett; siblings, Carolyn Plunkett (Melissa Davis) and Tony Plunkett (Gayle); nieces, Alysann Plunkett and Mary Beth Plunkett; and many extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, 2024, with visitation beginning at 12pm, followed by the funeral service at 1pm. A private burial will be held at Mount Muncie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Craig Hospital (Make A Gift - Craig Hospital Foundation (convio.net).
