The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord officiated by E.Z. Smith. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery at 471 Church Street, Concord.

Jim was a magnificent husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman, never sitting still for long. He enjoyed tending to his garden and watching it grow, driving his tractor, bee keeping, hunting, racing go - carts, visiting back home in the mountains to ride 4 - wheelers, and after giving into his wife’s persuasion - vacationing at the beach where he thoroughly enjoyed fishing, especially when his nephew was able to join him. Jim spent many days grilling out and experimenting with recipes, some of which were honestly not a big hit but nevertheless enjoyable time with family. Jim also loved working with his hands, especially woodworking, his career in construction and lumber span throughout his lifetime and he gained much knowledge and confidence in his work. His daughter would always say that her “daddy could build anything” and he did; he built her a barn, a chicken coop, and he also restored his old 65 Mustang for her to drive during high school. His most cherished moments were the times he got to spend with his grand boys, they were his shadow, keeping him busy, always making him laugh and smile. He could not wait to see them after school and talk about their day and take them to get bubble gum out of the machine at the grocery store. He always gave his son - in - law a hard time but neither one would have wanted it any other way, especially talking about their tractors and what they would tear up next. His daughter will forever be his “babe head”, a true daddy’s girl, he was her first love. If you saw one the other wasn’t far away, they often got into mischief - no matter where they were. Jim’s greatest love was his wife, he and Edna were true soul mates! Their love spanned well over their 49 years of marriage. He was her “Grumpy Old Man” and she his “Grumpy Old Woman”. Their dedication and commitment to each other never wavered even through difficult times. They are the absolute definition of a love that endures all. He cared for her just as much as she cared for him. The day he and Edna were promoted to “Paw - Paw” and “Maw - Maw” was monumental. Even on his worst days, Jim always put his family first and the needs of others before his own. He was stubborn, never complained, and was always willing to do anything for anyone that called on him. He wasn’t afraid to tell you what he thought, but he was never mean. Jim was from a humble background which shaped his dedication to hard - work and honesty. He was determined, strong, intelligent, brave, caring, loving, and left an impact on all who knew him. Jim was a true friend and gentleman to all he met and will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Edna Wyatt; daughter Maranda Wyatt and her husband Chris Hartsell; two grand boys, Dylan and Logan; nephew, Lanny South; brother - in - law, Homer Key; the Showmar family; and numerous construction buddies that he considered family.
