James R. Johnson, affectionately known as James to his friends and loved ones, left this world on March 5, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on August 2, 1943, in Pasadena, Texas, James lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his community, and a warm, infectious spirit that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James's journey began in the heart of Texas, where he grew into a man of strong values and commitment. After graduating from Okmulgee High School in Oklahoma, he answered the call of duty, serving his country with honor in the United States Air Force. Upon returning to civilian life, James continued to protect and serve as a member of law enforcement. His sense of civic duty was further exemplified through his active involvement with the Knights of Columbus, the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, and as a faithful member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Holman, Texas.
He was a man who cherished his family above all else. James's enduring love story with his wife of 59 years, Carol, stands as a testament to devotion and partnership. Together, they raised a son and a daughter, Todd Johnson, with his wife Roxanne of La Grange, Texas, and Brittani Roberts, with her husband Doug of Johnson City, Texas. James took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Tyler Johnson and Mason, Isaac, and Ty Roberts. He found joy in every moment spent with them, whether it was in the great outdoors hunting or simply sharing his passion for collecting knives. His love extended to his sisters-in-law and husbands, Barbara and Eugene Niemeyer, Rita and Richard Grobe, sisters-in-law, Pam Fite, Lee Ann Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he held dear.
James was a man characterized by his sense of humor, friendliness, and loving nature. These attributes not only endeared him to his family but also to the broader community where he made countless lasting friendships. With every act of kindness and every shared laugh, James's legacy of warmth and camaraderie was woven into the fabric of the lives around him.
Predeceased by his parents, Henry T. Johnson and Sarah Imogene Long, in-laws Vic and Agnes Struve, sister Fran Johnson, and brother Wayne Johnson, James's memory will be cherished and kept alive by those he leaves behind. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of many, yet his spirit endures in the stories and memories shared among those who loved him.
James's life was a reflection of the principles he held dear-family, faith, and community. As we bid farewell to a man of such admirable character, we take solace in the knowledge that his legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations to come.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. James R. Johnson will be profoundly missed, but the light of his life will forever shine in the hearts of those he touched. As we honor his memory, we celebrate a life marked by laughter, love, and the unwavering strength of a man who was truly one of a kind.
