Deacon James "Cy" Johnson Jr. resident of Poughkeepsie, NY has gone home to be with the Lord.
Cy was the only child, born to the late James Sr. and Evelena Johnson.
Cy furthered his education in the Poughkeepsie City School District after his family moved from Verbank, NY. At an early age Cy, had to leave school early to start working to help support his mother and himself. He began working at Peck & Peck in the shipping department for several years. James worked at Alfa Laval formally known as DeLaval in the Milling Department and Rubber Plant in Poughkeepsie, NY for 21 years. Cy did not stop there, then he worked at Catskill Art and Office Supply before finally retiring in 2009.
Cy was a saved sanctified Deacon at Beth-El Church of God In Christ for over 45 years where he served faithfully, under the tutelage of the late Bishop James E. and First lady Leatrice Hunt where he was loyal to.
James's "Cy" was married to the love of his life for almost 58 years, Frances (Ronnie) Johnson and to this union was born Four children, Derek Johnson (Venessa), George Johnson (Alvera), Shayla Johnson (Andre), Francesca Johnson (Robert). Cy leaves to cherish his fond memories are his 12 grandchildren Desaun Johnson, Domineke Johnson, Deronica Johnson, Dezmond Johnson, Galisa Johnson, Sonovan Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Eviyan Johnson, Xavier Johnson, Viani Johnson-Lindsay, Ivan Lindsay, and Evan Lindsay. 19 great grandchildren; and a host of friends and a loving church family.
He was predeceased by 2 great granddaughters.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 3, 2024 from 10am to 11am with going home services beginning at 11am at the Bethel Church of God and Christ 91 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Burial to follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc. 39 So. Hamilton Street Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (845)452-1840.
