James E. Jones affectionately know as “Pee-Paw”, or recently “PuPU”, born August 17, 1930 to Marie and James Jones in Springfield Illinois. Passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family at 94 years old at home in Sweeny, Texas.
“Pee-paw” graduated from Sweeny High School valedictorian and enlisted in the US Navy as a Hospital man, where he received the first ever perfect score on the Navy Medical Exam. On August 4th,1961 he married the love of his life, Irma M. Jones, “Mee-Maw”. He worked for Phillips Oil Company in Sweeny for over 30 years inside the chemical lab, retiring in 1985. Pee-Paw and Mee-Maw continued to run a successful tax business for 52 years. Starting in a bedroom in their house and moving to an office he renovated in downtown Sweeny. Pee-Paw worked until 2018 when he finally retired from the workforce becoming fulltime table manager and professional complainer at home.
Pee-Paw enjoyed years umpiring Little League baseball with his “claim to fame” being the time he got to umpire a Nolan Ryan game. He served on the City Council for 4 years in Sweny. However, despite the numerous hobbies and achievements he found his greatest joy sitting around a table with friends and family playing cards. Pee-Paw was further known for his jazzy shirts, quick wit, and great conversations, there wasn’t a stranger he wouldn’t spark a conversation with.
Pee-Paw is survived by three children, Melonie (John deceased) Millwood, Eran (Kelly) Jones, and Dolores “Baby” Jones. Seven grandchildren, John Millwood II, Brandy (Michael) Mendez, Louis (Gina) Millwood, Kristi (Steven) Dashney, Mandy (Erin) Kennedy, Marci (Ryan) Odegard, and Travis (Nicki) Schuerg. 18 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
