James Allen Jordan, born on January 11, 1956, passed away at the age of 70 in San Antonio, Texas leaving behind a legacy defined by dedication and creativity. His life’s journey began in Needville, Texas, where he grew up surrounded by the values and community that shaped his character. Over the years, he made his home in several places—including Needville and Rosenberg, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Memphis, Tennessee; and Boerne, Texas—touching lives wherever he lived.

On March 29, 1980, James married the love of his life, Linda Krause Jordan, at Brookshire United Methodist Church after meeting during their studies at Sam Houston State University. Their marriage of 45 years stood as a testament to unwavering partnership and devotion.

James built a distinguished career rooted in culinary excellence and service. He owned and operated Jordan’s Homestyle Bakery in Rosenberg, Texas for 22 years, earning the respect of his community through his skill and hospitality. He later served as Director of Food Services for school districts across Texas, New Mexico, and Tennessee, where he ensured countless students were fed. His passion for teaching led him to the Art Institute of San Antonio, where he served as Director of Culinary Studies and an instructor, shaping the next generation of culinary professionals.

James was known for his culinary skills, especially cakes and kolaches. He loved to compete in statewide baking contests with kolaches being his favorite. James’s love of baking was a family event. He shared his baking knowledge with his daughters and their friends. His recent passion was coaching his great nieces in the art of kolache baking where Faith and Taryn Krause placed in statewide competitions. He was looking forward to sharing this skill with Oaklyn Krause.

In addition to being a master in the kitchen, James was also a Master Gardener. He cultivated beauty and had a particular love for growing roses. At one time he had over 100 roses bushes planted around the home garnering the admiration of many.

James is survived by his wife, Linda Krause Jordan; his daughters, Jennifer Jordan Phipps and her husband AJ Phipps of Virginia, and Megan Brittany Jordan of Washington. He is also survived by his brother in law, Kenneth Krause; sister in law, Wendy Jordan; and his nieces and nephews: Sarah Krause, Christopher Krause and his wife Karrie, Jake Jordan, Wyatt Jordan, Jayme Gorka, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gracie and James Alvie Jordan; his parents in law, Alice and Harry Krause; and his brother, John Jordan.

James will be remembered for his humor, “sweet” contributions to society, and the love for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the students he mentored, and the many lives he touched through his work and passions.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jake Jordan, Wyatt Jordan, Westin King, Christopher Krause, AJ Phipps, Jordon Messer, Josh Tackett, and Steven Tackett. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Knesek, Christian Krause, Kenneth Krause, Doug Schultz, and Steve Tackett.
