James and Judy Dockery, of Swannanoa, went home to be with their Lord and Savior on Friday, September 27, 2024. They deeply loved each other in life and in death. They would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on October 14.
James was born December 6, 1960, in Buncombe County to the late Clyde and Covie Dockery. He loved music, and playing instruments especially the lead guitar. He enjoyed making others laugh, joking, and pulling pranks. James was an outdoorsman who enjoyed tree work, hunting, fishing, and collecting pocketknives.
Judy was born February 26, 1960, in McDowell County to the late Arden "Hoodie" and Margie Gregg. She was known as "Mama" or "Aunt Judy" to everyone. She looked and acted like her mother, was selfless, was a second Mama to her family, and always had candy to give out. She loved serving, cooking and caring for others. She retired from the NC State Veterans Home.
James and Judy were dedicated to each other and their family. James was a preacher; they loved the Lord with all their heart and were faithful members of Victory Baptist Church. They opened their home for people and were known for their blue couch. They will be greatly missed by their family and everyone who knew them.
In addition to their parents, they are preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Dockery; and her sisters, Renee Allen, and twins Margaret and Ruth Gregg.
Left to cherish their memories is their son, Bruce Lee Dockery; James's brother, Bryon Dockery (DeDe); Judy's siblings, Anita Gregg, Randy Gregg (Fran), and Gerald Gregg (Jannell); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service for James and Judy will be held at a later date.
