Obituary of James Lewis Kain

James Lewis Kain, 62, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 26, 2025.

Born on February 13, 1963, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, he was the son of the late James and Diana (Southwell) Kain. James spent his childhood in Dover, Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Nutley, and Passaic before settling in Washington, NJ. He graduated from Warren County Technical High School in 1981.

James dedicated nearly 20 years of his career as a personal patient care technician at the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton, where he compassionately cared for individuals with severe disabilities. He later continued his service with the ARC of Warren County and Abilities. Known for his big heart and quick wit, James was always ready to brighten someone's day with laughter.

On August 11, 2007, James married the love of his life, Barbara (nee Dormida), at the Phillipsburg Alliance Church. Strong in his Christian faith, he cherished their 18 years of marriage deeply.

James had many passions, including photography and art. He had a gift for finding beauty in the world and capturing it through his lens. A devoted fan of jazz and blues, he admired artists such as Billy Gibbons, B.B. King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Music was woven throughout his life, and those fortunate enough may have heard him sing at the Stanhope House over the years.

Above all, James was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Kain; brother Eric Kain; sister Jennifer Kain; nephews Jeffrey Kain and his wife Angel, Lars Haugaard, Hunter Kain and his girlfriend Casey Perez, and Geri Kain and his fiancée Diane; nieces Sophia Pahoulis and Ava Lyn Kain; uncle Lewis Kain; cousin Steven Kain; and a large extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, James Kain and Diana Southwell-Kain-Boylan; brothers Thomas Kain and Billy Kain; and cousin Frank Nichay.

In keeping with James' wishes, cremation will be held privately, and a memorial service will be planned at a later date.

James will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the joy he brought to everyone he met.
