Joan Marie Kain, affectionately known as Joan to her loved ones, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at her home in Drexel Hill. Born on September 2, 1943, in Darby, Joan was the cherished daughter of the late Paul J. and Elizabeth (Horn) Aylmer. She was the beloved wife of Robert Joseph Kain of Drexel Hill and a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
Joan's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family and her community. She shared a loving marriage with Robert and together they raised a beautiful family, including their children Theresa "Terry" M. (Kain) Murray and her husband Michael of Havertown, Robert E. Kain and his wife Dana of Ridley Park, Paul J. Kain and his wife Lynn of Elverson, and Deborah "Debbie" (Kain) Lamberto and her husband Corey of Upper Darby. Joan's joy was multiplied with the birth of each grandchild, and she took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Samantha M. Wilensky and her husband, Samuel; Christopher M. Murray; Nicholas R. Kain; Megan E. Kain; Kristen E. Kain and her fiancé, Taylor Ball; Steven P. Kain and his companion, Sarah J. Metzgar; and Mia A. Lamberto. Her brother, Paul C. Aylmer, and his companion, Mary Kay Murray of Haddon Heights, NJ, will remember Joan as a guiding light and confidante.
A graduate of West Catholic Girls High School, Joan's thirst for knowledge and service led her back to the classroom later in life. She earned a degree as a Certified Nursing Assistant from Delaware County Community College, proudly becoming part of the first graduating class with the new CNS Training Program degree. Her dedication to helping others was evident in her work at Delaware County Hospital, where she provided compassionate care to patients on the Oncology floor until her retirement.
Joan's professional journey took an unexpected turn when, on her retirement day, she ran into Dr. John Sprandio, Sr., who offered her a position at his private practice in Oncology and Hematology. This opportunity allowed her to continue her passion for patient care and form lasting bonds with Dr. Sprandio and his staff, who would later support Joan with the same love and care she had given to so many.
Throughout her life, Joan was a pillar of strength and a source of comfort to those around her. She was a devout Catholic who lived her faith through acts of kindness and unwavering support for her family and friends.
Family and friends will be received Friday, September 26th, 2025 from 10 to 11:45am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 3422 Dennison Ave., Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the church on Friday at 12pm. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.
