James Kane Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. on Nov. 18, 2025.

On November 14, 2025, James Lyons Kane died peacefully in Towson, Maryland surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Corning, New York, the son of Francis Thomas Kane and Mary Margaret Kane (nee Lyons) who predeceased him. He is survived by his beloved wife Camille Aimee Kane (nee Lyden) and by his devoted children James Michael Lyden Kane and Rose Aimee Victoria Agnes Kane and her partner, Ryan Charles Needer.

Jim was the brother of Tom Kane and his wife Carole, Fran Kane and his late wife Bev, John Kane and his late wife Ann, Anne Marie Konzet and her husband Jeff, Bridget Burke and her late husband Joe, Gerard Kane, Pat Kane and his wife Kathleen, Katie Barringer and her husband Stan, Terry Daniel and her husband Todd, and the late Mary and Gary Meagher. Jim was the son-in-law of the late Robert J. Lyden, MD, and the late Anita L. Lyden; the grandson-in-law of the late Lizzy Bennett. He was the brother-in-law of Susan Lyden, Maria Talarigo and her husband Richard, Deborah Nizer and her husband Doug, Rebecca Dietrich and her husband Alan, Patrick Lyden, Noel Adamski and her late husband Norman, Robert Lyden, Jr. and his surviving wife Lis Tolbert and the late Michael Lyden. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, his Immaculate Heart of Mary Church family, other relatives, and many friends.

Born on July 15, 1950, Jim Kane was the middle of eleven children. He grew up on the Kane Family Farm on Cole Creek Road and proudly worked on the farm alongside his father into early adulthood. In 1983, he met his soon-to-be wife Camille outside of Saint Catherine's Catholic Church. Their first date was attending a local Irish festival, followed shortly thereafter by an engagement and then a wedding in early 1984. As Jim and Camille's early love story shows, Jim held three things closest to his heart: his family, his faith, and his Irish heritage.

Jim and Camille welcomed their first child, James, in November of 1984, and shortly thereafter moved to Phoenix, MD, to manage Sunnybrook Buffalo Farm. Six years later, as they prepared for their family to grow once again, Jim and Camille purchased their first home together in Parkville, Maryland. They welcomed their daughter Rose to the world in 1991 and Jim transitioned his decades of mechanical know-how from a life on the farm to one in factory manufacturing. He returned to school part-time while working at Procter and Gamble, earning certifications in electrical engineering and manufacturing maintenance. Jim retired from Procter and Gamble as a maintenance planner after 25 years of outstanding service.

As a child, Jim's passion for music and song grew beyond singing in Church. His fingers strumming along on the guitar, Jim's smooth tenor voice brought life to countless holidays and gatherings. Always with a song in his heart, Jim carried his passion for singing into fatherhood, taking the opportunity to serenade his kids to sleep with the traditional Irish songs he sang in the bands of his youth. As his children grew older, Jim dedicated his increased free time to his local parish, joining both the Church Choir and the Resurrection Choir at his home parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary until his fight with cancer took away his ability to sing. Jim's funeral will be adorned with music from his friends in the Resurrection Choir. The Christmas lights adorning Immaculate Heart this year were meticulously checked and tended by Jim, as they had been for years before; one of the many ways Jim dedicated his talents to his Church.

Jim was a member of the New York State Grange for over 50 years, always holding his farming heritage close. When his daughter Rose began training working border collies during the COVID outbreak, he and Camille would drive an hour away to sit in their car and watch the herding instinct come to life for a few minutes, before turning around and driving the hour home. As Rose began competing, Jim and Camille traveled to Savannah, GA, to watch her first trial, and from then he was hooked. Exploring the vast farmland of Ohio, New York, Kentucky, and Virginia to cheer on his grand dogs, Jim and Camille would be sure to "shop local," checking out the local ice cream shops and vineyards. Jim found great joy in the adventures of life, always made better by good food, great songs, and wonderful company.

The family invites you to celebrate his life at the family-owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road, Towson, Maryland 21204 on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, from 3PM-7PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his home parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 9AM. A private interment will be held by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Jim's request was that memorial contributions be made to the SPCA 3300 Falls Road Baltimore, Maryland 21211, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church 8501 Loch Raven Blvd. Towson, Maryland 21286 or to St. John Fisher University 3690 East Avenue Rochester, New York 14618.
