James H. Karr, 88, of Lower Paxton Township, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 4, 1936, in Mack, Colorado, James was a son to the late Harold and Docia (Myers) Karr.
Follow high school, James enlisted with the United States Marine Corps for four years and then with the United States Air Force where he retired after twenty-three years of service. After retiring from the military as a Master Seargent, he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut as a mechanical instructor for the black hawk helicopter. Retiring from Sikorsky Aircraft in 1997, James and his family moved to Centre Hall, PA, until recently moving to Harrisburg, PA, to be closer to family.
In his free time, James thoroughly enjoyed fishing with his family and grandchildren. He also loved visiting historical places and going on family vacations to Disney World and Myrtle Beach.
James is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Bressler) Karr; daughters Kimberly Kalinowski (Thomas) and Kristine Karr; grandchildren Tyler Pierson, Jessica Pierson (Amanda), Haley Kalinowski, Miranda Fuller, and Zoe Riggleman; great grandchildren Makenna, Austin, Cassidy, and Henry; sister Jan Raner; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a grandson, Alex Karr; sibling Charlie Karr, Hank Karr, Phyllis Boyd, and Shirley Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
A committal with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville. There will be a celebration of life following the committal at Mount Calvary United Methodist Church, 175 North Fairview Avenue, Harrisburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
