Born on November 22, 1981, in Barberton, Ohio, James lived a life defined by dedication to his family, service to his country, and loyalty to his friends.
James was a graduate of Field High School and Maplewood Joint Vocational School. He built a strong and steady career, first working at Spectrum Surgical and later at Steris. He was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed.
A proud member of the United States Army through the Ohio National Guard, James served his country with honor. He was deployed to Iraq from late 2003 through early 2005. His military service was one of his greatest sources of pride, and he carried deep respect for his fellow service members and his military family.
Outside of his professional and military life, James enjoyed spending time doing the things he loved. He was an avid gamer, enjoyed golfing and off-roading, and valued time spent with friends, neighbors, and family. Music was a constant presence in his life and often brought people together around him.
James is survived by his daughter, Faith Kramer; his father, Dan Kerns; his mother, Martha Gabus; his siblings, Mike Kerns, Brenda Meyers and Brian Meyers; his girlfriend, Michelle Jones; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
James will be laid to rest with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44270, on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 2:15 p.m. Please arrive at the cemetery around 2:00 pm and follow the signage for which lane to begin lining up in (remain in your vehicle). At 2:15 p.m., a cemetery staff member will lead everyone to the appropriate committal shelter for the services.
He will be remembered for his strength, his sense of humor, his loyalty, and the pride he took in serving others. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
