James Martin “Marty” Kerr age 71, of Waterford, known to most as Marty, passed away after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Erie on February 21, 1954, a son of the late James W. and Marion McClellan Kerr.
Marty was a 1972 graduate of McDowell High School and went on to work for his father at Kerr’s Tire Korner. He took over ownership in 1994 until recently when he was unable to work because of his illness.
If you were ever at Kerr’s Tire you would always see Marty with his pipe, and a smell of tobacco in the air. Marty was always there with a kind word and a great sense of humor. He did everything at work to get the jobs done for over 50 years.
Marty had many hobbies. He loved the outdoors, his house in the country, dogs, and his Harley Motorcycles, and was one of the first members of ABATE of Erie County. He was a huge history buff and was a 4th degree Black Belt in karate. He also taught karate for many years.
He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Waterford, where he served on the financial council. He rescued many, many dogs over the years and his surviving pup Ginger will miss him terribly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in law Rick Fogle and his two best friends, Jerry Rapp and Ralph Porfilio.
Marty is survived by his beloved wife of over 30 years Roxane Hein Kerr; a daughter, Nicole Kerr; two brothers: Michael Kerr and his wife Sharri; and Mathew Kerr and his wife Amanda; five sisters: Judi Kerr and partner Dave Morrell; Kathi Fogle; Diane Spudic and her husband John; Elizabeth Richey and her husband Paul; and Bonnie Sipple and her husband Tim; his brother-in-law Bob Hein and his partner Sue and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
