Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Downtown - ErieAnn Elizabeth Townsend, 87, died Friday, September 12, 2025, at Springhill Senior Living – Oakview in Erie.
Born on September 29, 1938, in Hartford, Connecticut, Ann was the only child of Thelma and Milton Stocking. Ann graduated from Colby College in 1960 and earned her M.Ed. from Central Connecticut State University in 1967.
Ann taught elementary school in Connecticut, Vermont, but primarily in Erie for 35 years. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Ann volunteered at CASA, Shriners Hospital, and Habitat for Humanity, where she served on the board of directors.
She enjoyed flower gardening, classical music, walking and cats. She was a long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Erie. Ann was especially grateful for her friends and kind staff at her Springhill home.
Ann is preceded in death by her son, Harvey G. Townsend, of Charlotte, NC.
A 2:00 p.m. Celebration of her Life will be held at Springhill Senior Living, 2323 Edinboro Road, on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Downtown, 602 W 10th Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Erie Community Foundation, “Stocking-Townsend Helping Hands Fund”, 459 W 6th St, Erie, PA 16507.
