James Earl Kilgore, age 79, of Wakeman died on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born July 24, 1945 in Lorain to the late Clyde and Ruth (Hopkins) Kilgore.

James pursued several passions over his lifetime. James loved spending time with his family, hosting large cook outs and gatherings. He enjoyed old cars, trucks and tractors and loved attending car shows. Animals were always a large part of his life. He spent time as a thoroughbred jockey and later a horse trainer. He worked as a black smith and farrier specializing in injured or foundered horses. In later years he raised dairy cattle and worked a large farm. He raised and bred English Mastiff dogs selling them all over the world for the last 20 years. He operated several businesses over the years ranging from Auto Body shops, pet stores to bars and restaurants. He was a former member of the Jockey's Guild, and also a former member of the AmVets.

Survivors include his children, James Kilgore (Mary), Leslie Kilgore (John), Kenneth Kilgore, and Kristofor Kilgore; grandchildren, Saundra, John, Joseph, Sierra, Shaelynn, Madison, Ashlynn, and Tyler, and great-granddaughter, Halle.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Viola June (Perkins); daughter, Kathryn Kilgore; daughter in law Brandy Kilgore; and brother, Dave Kilgore.

Private Graveside services will be held at Clarksfield Methodist Cemetery. The Eastman Funeral Home of New London is honored to assist the family with their arrangements.
