James Kolasinski, 65, resident of Milford NH, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2025 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA surrounded by his family.

A loving husband to Margaret and dedicated father of daughters Katy, Shannon, and Sydney, James was known for his caring acts and service in support of the schools, sports, and community events that shaped the family’s life.

He was born in 1959 at Fort Knox, KY; the second son of Thomas and Chie “Monica” Kolasinski. He is survived by his 2 brothers and 2 sisters: John, Mark, Mary Ann, and Theresa. The family moved with Thomas’ Army career to Okinawa, Japan and Ft. McClellan, AL. James graduated valedictorian from Anniston High School in 1977.

James earned his B.S. in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Arizona, while in the ROTC program. He pursued a Master’s of Astronomy, focusing on Astrophotography, at the University of Florida and was an Astronomy Lab Instructor. Florida is where he met, and later married, Margaret in 1985. He paused his education to serve his first military tour at Nuremberg, Germany. He completed his Master’s Degree in International Relations at Troy University. James served over 20 years in the US Army and retired as a Major. During his career, he sought opportunities to experience as much of the world as possible with his wife and family. He particularly enjoyed Volksmarches and coordinating his military unit’s children’s Christmas party.

In 1994, the family moved to Milford, NH, where he worked for a time at Frye’s Measure Mill and most recently at Connection, Inc. James served as the Web-Team support for Dollars for Scholars, a Girl Scout Leader, MHS Gymnastics Coach, and Gymnastics Village Dad known for his hair braiding skills. He was a consistent fan and supporter of Milford Field Hockey, Softball, Tennis, and Track and Field. He was a “dog-dad”: his current golden retriever Mochi always ready for a car ride to the Transfer Station or out for “walkies.” James was an avid woodcarver and fisherman who enjoyed nature’s local beauty so much that he began and contributed to the Friends of Heron Pond Facebook Page.

James was always a person to have a conversation with anyone and everyone near him. He was proud to share his stories, his pride in his daughters, and his thoughts on yard work or grilling. He was a thoughtful and romantic husband whose plans were always in motion.

A family gathering will be held in celebration of his life and light. In lieu of flowers, please find time to share with your family and make a commitment to positively engage with your local community.
