James Korte Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, Inc. - Mount Clemens on Jan. 8, 2026.
James Thomas Korte, a resident of China, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born on June 22, 1949, in Mt Clemens Michigan, to the late Robert and Evelyn Korte.

At the age of 20, in July 1969, James proudly entered the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He earned the rank of SP4 E-4, serving two years before being honorably discharged in March 1971. During his service, he received several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, two Overseas Bars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal 16 EX and M14.

James was preceded in death by his wife, the former Patricia Best, on October 16, 2021. After returning home from military service, he began his civilian career with Chrysler Corporation and later worked as a manager for a supply company.

His greatest joy was tending to and maintaining his five acres of land. After a long day's work, he found peace sitting on his porch with his 6:00 p.m. cold beverage-a daily ritual he cherished. James also took pride in his summer garden, which produced an abundance of food enjoyed by many. Above all, his grandchildren were the light of his life. He treasured every moment spent with them, sharing the fine points of life in the way only a grandfather can.

James is survived by his daughter, Stacie Stultz, (Eric Kozlowski), and his grandchildren, Sidney and Brenden Stultz. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Gretchen Korte.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main, Mount Clemens, Michigan. A Mass will follow on Monday, January 12, 2026, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 95 Market Street, Mount Clemens, Michigan, where he will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. service. Military honors will take place at the church following services.
