James Krapf Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 7, 2025.
James "Jim" Peter Krapf was born September 7, 1952, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to Paul and Carolyn (Pedersen) Krapf. Jim was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. He passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at his home in Janesville after his "long good-bye" after being diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and left temporal dementia. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years, Jan; his son, Jeremy Krapf, his daughter Joni (Krapf) Meyer, his son-in-law, Tim Meyer. His beloved grandchildren, Ty, Trace, Tate and Trevor Krapf, and Noah and Genaveve Meyer.
Jim grew up on the family farm near Jasper, Minnesota with his parents. Jim was the oldest of 6 children and enjoyed a family farm childhood which included 4H, FFA, Luther League, the Angus Association, and of course many sports and recreational activities throughout grade school and high school.
Jim graduated from Jasper High School in 1970. He furthered his education attending Crookston College for 1 year and returned home to the farm with his parents. On July 8, 1972, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Jan Gunderson. Jim's profession changed in 1983 and he returned to college where he attended Iowa Lakes Community College then to Mankato State University, before eventually finishing his degree at the University of Minnesota in the twin cities. Jim received degrees in Park and Recreation, Psychology, and attained his master's degree in public administration. This led him to work in Park and Recreation in Chaska, Minnesota, and New Ulm for a total of 14 years. He then went on to work at Target and Dittrich Specialties in New Ulm.
Jim was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm for many years where he served as an elder, assisted with confirmation classes, and provided custodial services for the church until his retirement in 2013.
Jim enjoyed many hobbies, and was an avid reader, especially Civil War novels and mysteries. He had a great appreciation for music, sports, puzzles, and most of all, his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his family, his parents, Paul and Caroline Krapf; his siblings, Nancy (Dean) Stoltenberg of Jasper, Pat (Walt) Unger of Goodhue, Bill (Lisa) Krapf of Jasper, Barb Krapf of Lismore; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Otto and Dora Krapf, and Elmer and Genevive Pedersen; his sister, Kathy Jo Krapf, and his nephew, Justin Stoltenberg.
Blessed be his memory.
Funeral service will be 12pm on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Brian Scoles will officiate, and burial will take place at a later date in the North Eden Cemetery in Jasper, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held from 10-12 pm on Tuesday at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm prior to the service.
