James Alfred Krodel, born June 18, 1926, in Murphy, Texas, and a resident of Mineola until he went to be with the Lord at the age of 96, on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 7:44 p.m. in Tyler, Texas. Visitation will be held, Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home, Quitman, Texas, with Funeral Services on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Quitman, conducted by Rev. Joel McMullan. Graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon at Restland Cemetery, Dallas.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Krodel; son, John Krodel (Patty) of Rockwall, Texas; brother, Floyd Krodell (Dolly) of Rockwall, Texas; numerous grandchildren including Dennis Alsup (Angie) who helped with his care the past few years, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

James and his first wife, Jean lived in Garland for 25 years prior to moving to Quitman. James was a finish carpenter by trade and worked extremely hard until the time he retired, due to his age. His excellent work gained him numerous referrals in the county. He was known by everyone in the county as an honest, kind and gentle man. He was a good friend to everyone, always had a smile, and a joke to tell.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean B. Krodel; father, Elmer John Krodel; mother, Mittie Ellen Krodel; brother, Lewis Christopher Krodel; sister, Mary Ruth Martin; and son, James Allen Krodel.

James served courageously in World War II as a U.S. Marine and was an Iwo Jima Survivor. He was a gentleman an a true American Hero who continued to honor his military background. He was a proud member of the Third Marine Association and the Texas Chapter of the Third Marine Association and enjoyed traveling to the local and national reunions. He was also a member of the Wood County Marine Corps League, where he and Mary visited the Veterans in two nursing homes for 10 years. James was an endowed member of Flora Masonic Lodge #119 and was very active serving as Master of Ceremonies for many years. He was also an endowed member of Highland Park Lodge #1150, Scottish Rite and Hella Shrine. James was also a member of First Baptist Church of Quitman and enjoyed attending. He was a great example of a Christian. In his last few years, he would sit under the carport reading his Bible, counting the words in the Bible and studying his Sunday School lessons.

Pallbearers are: Bobby Jackson, Matt Jackson, William Jackson, John Noe, and members of Flora Masonic Lodge #119.
