Michael Krodel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Family Funeral & Cremation Service - Edmond on Jan. 16, 2025.
Michael Frederick Krodel, known affectionately as Mike, Dad, Grandpa and Pops to his family and friends, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 15, 2025, at the age of 84 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Mike's journey through life was defined by his loving nature, his family values, his knack for being incredibly handy, and his friendly demeanor that won him the hearts of many.
Mike is survived by a loving family that meant the world to him. His devoted wife of 44 years, Nancy, stood by his side in a partnership that was a testament to their shared love and commitment. He was a cherished father to his sons, John (Mary), Andrew, and Matt (Julie) Krodel, and a caring stepfather to Nancy's daughters, Stephanie (Gary) Fugler and Cristi (Andy) Watson. Mike's joy was multiplied by his grandchildren, Joe (Kate), Ben, Maisie, and Mary Krodel, Curt (Kelly), Ethan, and Aaron Watson, and his great grandson Sam Krodel. All will remember him as a cherished family member. He also leaves behind his sister, Emily Dugo, who will dearly miss her big brother.
Born on January 14, 1941, in Jasper, Indiana, Mike grew up in a storybook small town known for its German Catholic heritage and furniture manufacturing. Mike loved Jasper and had a wonderful childhood that allowed him to enjoy practicing his faith, life guarding, wood crafting, fishing, golfing, and driving his old Pontiac. After graduating high school, Mike earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from St. Louis University. Mike embarked on a successful career that showcased his ability to manage and work with people. He retired as a Branch Manager for Household International, then worked as a Credit Manager for Oklahoma Kenworth, and completed his professional career retiring again as a Registered Agent with New York Life Insurance.
Mike was a man of diverse interests and talents. He cherished the time spent with his wife, family and grandchildren, creating memories that they will hold dear for a lifetime. Mike also continued enjoying his childhood hobbies as an adult and became the family go-to handy man, always ready to lend a helping hand or fixing whatever needed attention, not only for his home but also for all his children's and neighbors' homes. Traveling was another joy in his life. When his children were young, he and Nancy always had annual family vacations, then later in his golden years, he and Nancy regularly traveled on cruises, road trips, and international destinations.
The family wants to express their gratitude to Mike's caregivers, Zel and Sandra, for guiding everyone through Mike's final months. Their patience, kindness, and exceptional care was the driving force for a peaceful ending. They will always be remembered as part of Mike's life.
As we bid farewell to Mike, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and brimming with love. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the gentle strength he embodied.
Mike's journey on earth has ended, but his spirit continues to inspire and guide us. Mike will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His light will continue to shine in the lives of those he left behind- guiding us until we meet again. Rest in peace, dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

We became neighbors and friends a long ago. We visited over the fence on many occasions and shared stories, events and life in general. Mike made bird houses and a Christmas light hanging tool for us. He taught me how to wash windows and I asked him many questions about how to "fix" and "do" many different things. My husband referred to him as "Ironside" Mike. We had many enjoyable nights on the patio sharing a glass of wine and discussing current and past events. We went to Catholic study classes together and witnessed Mike and Nancys exchange of vows at the Catholic Church. Fresh Donuts over the fence was his signature gift!
He was so special to us and we shall always hold him dear in our hearts .
Love and miss you MIke.
