John Kyle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Family Funeral & Cremation Service - Edmond on Mar. 11, 2026.
John Paul Kyle, Sr., passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Edmond, OK, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to his family. Born on October 23, 1940, in Poteau, OK, John's journey through life was marked by his love for others, kindness, and a sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.

John graduated from Northeast High School in 1958, where he first exhibited his leadership and athletic prowess. His passion for football led him to the University of Idaho, playing from 1958 to 1960 before transferring to Central State College (now University of Central Oklahoma). At Central State, John's talent shone brightly as he helped lead the team to its first NAIA National Championship in 1962, a proud moment that would remain dear to him throughout his life.

After completing his education with a Bachelor's and a Master's of Education in 1963, John dedicated himself to teaching and coaching football at John Marshall High School where he was named All-City Coach of the Year in 1964. His influence extended beyond the classroom and field as he spent over 40 years lobbying for various associations, including The Oklahoma Motor Carriers Assoc., The Oklahoma Oil Marketers Assoc., and The Oklahoma Railroad Assoc. His efforts were a testament to his professional dedication and integrity. John's personal life was filled with joy and companionship. He was a loving husband to his wife, Carolyn Kyle, and his late wife, Raynette Kyle, and a loving father to his children: Kim Bates and the late Alvin Bates, John and Joyce Kyle, and Brook and Jim Lehew, and children he gained through marriage: Carrie and Kevin McCarty and Brian and Zoe Branstetter. The family grew with the addition of beloved grandchildren Lucy Johnson, Avery Fouts, Millie Wall, Piper Kyle, Kennedy Lehew, Lincoln Lehew, Jackson Lehew, Gefi Ivey, Carly Gurley, Kyle McCarty and Caity McCarty as well as numerous great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness to his days.

A man of faith, John was a member of Henderson Hills Baptist Church for over 30 years. His Christian beliefs guided him and provided solace throughout his life's triumphs and trials. His interests were diverse, including a love for golf, fishing, and the simple pleasures of traveling on road trips with his family. The arrival of his grandkids marked a new chapter of joy, as he cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and sharing laughter.

John's legacy is one of a kind and loving spirit, a funny and gentle man who touched the lives of many. His passing is deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. John Paul Kyle, Sr. lived a life that was full, rich, and meaningful, and his memory will continue to inspire and comfort those he left behind. His was a life well-lived, and he will be profoundly missed.

John was a wonderful man. I was so blessed to have known him and saw the love he shared with my great aunt Carolyn (Susie). Every Christmas Carrie would host a cousins Christmas cookie event at her house and John was the judge. Him and my oldest daughter also had the same birthday so he always made sure to wish her a happy birthday and back to him. My kiddos loved him dearly! He will be missed.
