It is with great sadness that the family of James Ronald Lackey announce his passing on Saturday, September 6, 2025, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Ronnie is survived by and will be remembered and missed by his loving daughters, Dana (Rodney) Wood, Tracy (Jamie) Chase, Meghan (Travis) Rogers, and Amanda (Adam) Tucker; grandchildren, Lauren (Nick) Dulaney, Colby Chase, Addison Tucker, Kristin Wood, Aidan Chaffin, Katie Wood, and Alijah Tucker; sisters, Norma Lackey and Patsy (Jim) Cain; and a host of loyal friends, including Wayne (Bush Baby) Whidby.

Ronnie was predeceased by his devoted wife, Lynn Lackey; parents, Ben and Bonnie Lackey; brother, Ben Lackey Jr.; and infant granddaughter, Aria Chaffin.

Ronnie served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969, including 12 months in Chu Lai Vietnam. Upon returning home, he began his 50-year career at L&N Railroad, working his way up through the ranks. He was proof that working hard and taking pride in what you do enables you to enjoy your free time the way you like. Ronnie's free time was usually spent riding his Harley or perched on a stool at his favorite bar. He's been lovingly referred to as Mayor of South Nashville. A stubborn man, set in his ways, he was a good father and a loyal friend to many. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life/visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home--Hickory Chapel at 5852 Nolensville Road.

Another one of Nashville´s elite has gone on. As a younger man who loved Harleys and tough guys, Ronnie was always like a hero to me. Served his country proudly, made it home, and became a railroader and somewhat of a legend, at least to me and many others. We will surely miss his smile, laugh and bigger than life personality. Now my friend, you´re free to ride for eternity. T.C. ( Tootie ) Chadwell
