PITTSFIELD – James F. Lally, Jr., 76, of Pittsfield, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025; at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord following a period of declining health.

He was born on July 30, 1949; in Dorchester, MA; son of the late James Lally, Sr. and Margaret (McClain) Lally. James was educated in the local schools and went on to attend Maine Maritime Academy, playing football throughout his time there and earning his degree in engineering at the same time.

James went on to spend his working years as an underwriter, first for NH Insurance Group for over 20 years and later for Hartford Steam Boiler until his retirement. For many years he enjoyed working as a football official in MA and NH for over 35 years, he officiated College games, High School, JV and even peewee games, it brought him great joy. He also enjoyed golf, cooking and entertaining, he welcomed everyone in.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Diane Colarusso and Margaret Lally-Barry.

He is survived by his wife Suzanne (Brickey) Lally of Pittsfield, two sons, Benjamin Lally and his wife Rebecca of Framingham, MA and Edward Lally of Maine, one brother, Thomas Lally and his wife Marianne of Canton, MA and all of his friends in the NH football official's association.

He will always be remembered by his wife as a great husband, friend and soulmate.
