James E Lavy

James E. "Sonny" Lavy, 85, of Troy, Missouri, passed peacefully from this world, at his residence, on Friday, June 30, 2023. He was born on May 29, 1938, in Elsberry to Grant and Thelma (Hammer) Lavy. Sonny was the youngest of 5 and knew what sharing and thinking of others meant. On July 6, 1956, he married the love of his life, Jeannie Zumwalt. To this union were born three children: Theresa, Mike and Mark. Sonny was a very hard worker and held many jobs throughout his lifetime with his greatest love being farming. Being a member of the Troy Holiness Church meant a lot to both Sonny and Jeannie. Sonny's most remarkable qualities were his unwavering kindness and his witty sense of humor. He possessed a gentle spirit that touched the lives of those he encountered. Sonny never hesitated to assist anyone in need.
Surviving are his loving family members: his daughter, Theresa Potestio of Troy; his son, Mike and wife Cherie Lavy of Troy; his sister-in-law, Wanda and husband Jim McCardie of Troy. He is further survived by his eight grandchildren: Shonna (Jim) Thate, Brad (Sarah) Lavy, Shane (Kate) Locklin, Neil (Amber) Lavy, Jason Locklin, Tim (Amy) Lavy, Josh (Chrissie) Lavy, Marla (Caleb) Jones and his many great-grandchildren: Kacey Thate, Ashley (Aaron) Nedved, Ryan Thate, Brooklyn Lavy, Molly Archibald, Jillian Archibald, Grace Locklin, William Locklin, Meagan (Logan) Moore, Jonathan Lavy, Cayden Lavy, Mason Lavy, Samantha Lavy, Marissa Lavy, Sadie Jones, Eli Jones and other relatives and friends.
Sonny was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Jeannie Lavy; his son, Mark Lavy; his son-in-law, Bob Potestio; and his siblings.
Visitation scheduled from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023 at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1304 Boone St., Troy, MO 63379 (636) 528-8244.
Funeral service to follow on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the McCoy- Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory, Troy, MO. Rev. Sam Lorton to officiate.
Interment to follow in Sulphur Lick Cemetery, Troy.
