James Gary Layton (Jim) passed away in his sleep on July 9, 2024 after many years of health complications.

Jim was born February 28, 1947 to Irvin C. Layton and Helen Gunn.

He grew up in West Bountiful and graduated from Viewmont High School; he attended welding classes at Utah Trade Tech.

Jim was a talented Fabricator, Welder & Machinist. He worked at Heinholt Engineering for 26 years. His craftmanship can be seen in numerous LDS Temples across the world and many other fun projects during his career. He built handrails at Abravanel Hall, freeway lights in Salt Lake County and movie set props for Universal Studios. Jim was a perfectionist at everything he did. He was always willing to help a neighbor or friend solve a problem or challenge when needed. His creativity, determination and hard work will surely be missed.

Jim is survived by his wife/sweetheart Sandy Marie Layton of 57 years, daughter Tina Marie Jacobsen (Todd), son James Brandon Layton, 9 granddaughters and 10 great grandchildren, sisters Mary Ellen Toone and Judy Jones (Dan), brother David Layton, and many more family and friends.

Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A social gathering for Jim will be held on Friday July 19th, 2024 from 4:00- 7:00 pm at McDougal Funeral Home 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville
