James Larry Lee (Larry), 72, of Statham, Georgia, beloved husband of 39 years to Cynthia (Cindy) Conner Lee passed away on October 6, 2024, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born and raised in Eastman, Georgia, Larry was the oldest son of Theodore Lee and Joyce Carr Lee. He attended Zebulon Baptist Church and graduated from Eastman County High School in 1969. Larry attended Georgia Southwestern College for his undergraduate training and the University of West Georgia for his master’s and specialist degrees.
Professionally, Larry served forty-four years as an educator in Georgia in various roles including teacher, football coach, athletic director, and school principal. He was a well-respected educator and a well-loved man.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Theodore Lee as well as his brother, W. Dean Lee. He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia (Cindy) Conner Lee, his daughter Meagan Lee Scruggs, son-in-law, Brandon Scruggs, and their four children. These four children, Larry’s precious grandchildren, include Hannibal James Scruggs (9), Alexander Tony Scruggs (7), Charlotte Victoria Scruggs (4), and Marcus Conner Scruggs (1). Larry is also survived by his sister, Carol Lee Mohler, nieces Allee and Krista Mohler, and several great nieces and nephews, all of Indiana.
Larry was a devoted father and grandfather (Pop Pop). In the last years of his life, daily hugs from his grandchildren provided Larry with delight and contentment. His cherished daughter, Meagan, was his pride and joy, and the two shared an especially close relationship. Meagan’s deep love for her daddy and her skilled nursing care eased the last moments of his life.
It must be added that Larry was a loyal Georgia Tech fan.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Lord and Stephens, West Funeral Home, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 – 2:30 followed by the service at 2:30 PM.
