Bracton Godbee Obituary

Bracton Lee Godbee

November 28, 1942 - March 13, 2026

Bogart, Georgia - Bracton Lee Godbee, "Lee", 83, of Bogart, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on November 28, 1942 in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late Bracton W. Godbee and Evelyn Alford Godbee.

Lee was someone who loved socializing and connecting with others making his job as a delivery driver for UPS, from which he retired after 25 years of service, an ideal position for him, allowing him to meet people from all walks of life. He had a great sense of humor and no matter the conversation you were having with him, he would always be sure to include his best dad joke. He maintained an active lifestyle and found joy in unique hobbies such as metal detecting on beaches and school playgrounds. His passion for history took him to special events, including an organized metal detecting outing in Connecticut on historic Civil War grounds. He also enjoyed exploring the stories behind old homes. His grandchildren brought him great joy and brought out the best in him..

Lee served in the Air Force, reflecting his deep love for this country. In his home office there is a quote he proudly displayed: "It is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice." This quote reflected the honorable traits he exhibited such as honesty, kindness and integrity. He made a lasting impression on his family and those around him by leading by example. Lee was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a devoted member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, where he was actively involved in Ted Phillips' community group

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Blake Foster.

Survivors include his wife of over 59 years, Ruth Ellen Godbee; children, Leellen Foster, Erica (Kelly) Cahoon, Shannon Godbee; grandchildren, Caylan Carlisle (Steven), Cameron Foster, Carah Collins (Coleman), Emma Sutton, Noah Sutton, Sophi Sutton, Abel Sutton, Ethan Godbee, Conner Godbee; sister, Beth Godbee; brother, Neil Godbee.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 2pm in the chapel of Lord & Stephens, WEST, Watkinsville with Joe Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00pm.

I know all the family is mourning right now but please remember this.
Imagine that you go out one day and you have $100.00 in twenty's in your purse or pocketbook. When you get home you empty your pockets or purse and you find that you now have only $40.00 and you didn't buy anything while you were out. Most people start to dwell on how much they lost when they should be grateful for what they still have. So let's reverse this for a moment...
Instead of dwelling on what you won't have in the future with Lee for now, dwell on what you had with him in the past and rejoice in that. But most of all know that the time will come when you will have a new future with him and that time will be eternal!!! Nothing will be able to disrupt that joyous reunion.
That's the process I used when Janie passed and I still keep those thoughts with me every day. Hope that makes sense to you. For all of us, this is just a temporary journey we have been on. The real journey...the big show...is yet to come and what a celebration it will be! "We will dwell together in the house of the Lord forever"!

Love you,

Neil Godbee
