John Henery Smith, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 24, 2025, in his home surrounded by love and warmth. Born on April 26, 1933, in West Jefferson, North Carolina, John lived a life full of adventure, passion, and accomplishment that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
John's career was marked by his tenure as the manager of outside operations at Walton EMC's Watkinsville Branch, where he was highly respected for his commitment and professionalism. After years of hard work, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and community service. His dedication to his job was paralleled by his enthusiastic engagement in various hobbies, most notably bowling. John took great pride in achieving the remarkable milestone of hitting one million pins, a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.
An avid traveler, John shared many memorable adventures with his beloved wife, Barbara Dodd Smith. Together, they enjoyed several cruises and embarked on a cherished journey along Route 66, creating lasting memories that they treasured. Their love for each other was profound, and their companionship reflected the joys and sorrows of life together.
John was also known for being very active, relishing the joys of life and the great outdoors. He had a beautiful lake house on Lake Oconee, where he spent countless hours enjoying nature's tranquility, always eager to share these moments with friends and family.
Funeral Service is Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 2:30 P.M. at the Oconee Chapel with Pastor Rick Brittain officiating.The family will visit from 1:30pm to service time. The interment will be in Oconee Memorial Park
John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his son, Marc Smith (Jane Pineda); his cherished grandchildren, Chelsie Smith (Kenny Wilson) and Courtney Morse (husband Rick Morse); and his beloved great-grandchildren, Rylan Smith, son of Chelsie, and Sophia, Sadie, and Savannah Morse, daughters of Courtney and Rick Morse. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience that will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In addition to his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his parents, Quincy and Katie Smith, and his eight siblings, who he cherished throughout his life.
As we remember John Henery Smith, let us celebrate a life well-lived, marked by achievements, love for family, and a spirit of adventure that will never be forgotten. His impact on the lives he touched will forever remain, a guiding light for those who loved him dearly.
