On August 12, 1937, Mrs. Clara Lloyd gave birth to James Lester Lloyd. He was raised by both parents, Preston and Clara Lloyd, on the Bass Plantation located in Indianola, MS, and was the 4th child out of 9 children.
James was educated in Indianola, MS where he graduated High School and joined the Army. He served for 4 years before being honorably discharged. After being discharged he met Emma and together, they moved to Indianapolis IN. Where he started a family and began a lengthy career with Allied Construction Company, which is where he was working when he retired.
James loved to fish very much. Fishing was his passion; he spent many years dedicating time to fishing. He spent time having fun with his fishing buddies as they waited patiently on who would be the first to catch the next fish, which was in most cases him.
In 2016 James joined Mount Calvery Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Robert Watts. Where he faithfully attended until his health no longer permitted him to attend. James loved serving the Lord and supporting his brother Eddie at the many concerts he attended in support of the group Eddie and the Spiritualaires.
James was proceeded in death by both parents, Emma and 6 siblings. He is survived by two brothers: Clifton (Dora) Lloyd and Eddie (Pearl) Lloyd; his children: Rita Lloyd, Marilyn (Timothy) Hartzell, Liza (Charlton) Taylor, Christopher (Starla) Lloyd, and Doris Lloyd; his grandchildren: Devon Boyd, William Phelps and Charlton (Adriana) Taylor; as well as his great grandchildren: Alora Taylor and Ashton Taylor.
