Eugene "Gene" Davis Lloyd, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to his Heavenly home on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, at the age of 81. Eugene was born in Halifax County, VA on Saturday, March 18th, 1944 to the late Charlie Thomas Lloyd and Luvinia Russell Lloyd Hicks.
Gene, a man of steadfast faith, was a devoted member of the Baptist community and always prioritized the love and well-being of his family above all else. Known for his kind heart and loving nature, he was a beacon of support to all who knew him. A passionate lover of sports, Gene was a fan of the New York Yankees and could often be found cheering for UVA basketball. His enthusiasm extended beyond just spectating, as he was an avid bowler and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of league bowling. Gene also loved playing horseshoes, relishing the friendly matches he shared with family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Saunders Lloyd, who stood by his side for 57 years through all of life's joys and challenges. He also leaves behind his son, Christopher Thomas Lloyd, and daughter-in-law, Sarah. He was a proud grandfather to Courtney Michelle Lloyd, Hannah Renee Lloyd, Davis Richard Lloyd, and Annie Josephine Lloyd, and a proud great grandfather to Kisean Maileke Harris Jr, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his beloved son, Darrell Wayne Lloyd and his brothers, Charlie Lloyd, Shirley Lloyd, and Bobby Lloyd.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Pastor Todd McClure officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
