James Long Obituary

James E. "Jim" Long, Sr., 82, of Andrews, Indiana, died at 3:18 am, Friday, January 9, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with his sons, John and Jan, by his side. He was born on July 9, 1943, in Huntington, Indiana to Max and Valanicia (Voght) Long.
Jim married Shelley Marie (Campbell) Barrus in Roanoke, Indiana on September 17, 1977; she died March 12, 2023. He retired from Celotex in Lagro. Jim was a long time member of the Dora Christian Church and helped the church with their Chili Cook Off recipes. He was always quick with a joke, and was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing, racecars, especially watching NASCAR.
He is survived by five children, James (Karen) Long Jr., of Three Rivers, Michigan, Valanicia Long, of Constantine, Michigan, Jeffrey Long, of Peru, Indiana, John Long, of Corbin, Kentucky, and Jan Long, of Andrews; three step-children, Tisha Barrus, of Huntington, Kristina Barrus, of Andrews, and Cameron Long, of Fort Wayne; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his sister, Joyce (Ron) Whitacre, of Huntington. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three sisters, Pat Morris, Janice Hosier, and Barb Sweet.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2026 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Mark Wisnewski, Minister officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 1-2:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Parkview Hospice.
