James "Willis" Lyons, 89, born November 8, 1936 went peacefully with the Lord on December 26, 2025.
Willis was born and raised in Harrodsburg, KY by his late parents, James Harvey and Sara Catherine Lyons and lived in Danville with his family until February 1972, then moved to Michigan and later married Jeanne Shafer Lyons on August 13, 1977.
Willis accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior at a young age, was baptized in the Salt River creek, and became a member of Salt River Baptist Church when the late Brother Joe Dick Estes was Pastor.
Willis' passion of being a truck driver continued throughout his life until he retired at the age of 82 in Elkhart, IN. He loved his wife and many dogs, always looking forward to being at home with them. He always loved his family visits to Kentucky, loved when his Kentucky family could come to visit him, and loved being a truck driver and getting to talk to his Kentucky family on his phone daily.
Willis leaves to cherish his devoted wife of 48 years, Jeanne Shafer Lyons, his daughters, Vicky Lyons Griffin (Danville), Peggy Lyons (Robbie) Sargent (Danville), and Malena Lyons (Josh) Curbow (Missouri); his grandchildren, Derek (Tara) Emerson (Danville), Tena Emerson (James) Stump (Michigan), Daniel (Cierra) Emerson (Danville), Del Sargent (Danville), Rebekah Sargent Campbell (Danville), and Hannah Dotson (Junction City); his great- grandchildren, Alexis, Jaxson, Erixson Stump (Michigan), Braylon (Lauren) Emerson, Brantley Allen, Truett Emerson, Ashton Feck, Chase, Gavin, and Myles Campbell (all of Danville); a brother, Floyd (Linda) Lyons (Danville), a sister, Mable Estes (Harrodsburg), and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews from Kentucky and Michigan.
Living with the Lord as Willis walked through the beautiful gates of Heaven is his baby boy, James Floyd Lyons, his granddaughter Jessica Sargent, his parents James Harvey and Sara Catherine Lyons, his sisters, Virginia "Ginner" Lyons Raney, and Mary Frances Lyons Ellis, brother-in-law Nellus Estes, great-nephew Brad Dishon, and numerous grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins,
Willis' "Going Home" service will be Friday, January 2nd, 2026 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg. Visitation hours will be 11:00 am until the service begins at 1:00 pm.
