James Allyn Lyons

James Allyn Lyons, 93, of Monroe, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 17, 2026. He was born January 29, 1932, in Elyria, Ohio, raised in N. Eaton, Ohio, the youngest child of Jack and Nellie Lyons. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Hawke; brother, John Lyons, and his beloved wife of 70 years, Barbara Brown Lyons.

Jim graduated from Miami University with a degree in Business and Marketing. He was a four-year letterman in baseball and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Following college, Jim was commissioned as a Lt. in the USAF, serving with the Strategic Air Command in Lincoln, Nebraska. He retired with rank of Captain, USAF.

Jim had a distinguished 33-year career with IBM Corporation in Charleston, WV. He loved his 51 years in WV, where he spent treasured time with family and friends, traveled, and was active in the community.

Jim is survived by his loving children and their families: Thomas Lyons and children, Jhared and Rachel; Mark and Kallie Lyons and children, Tyler, Morgan, and Jennifer; Rebecca and Mike Hatfield and son, Marshall; Steven and Susan Lyons and son, Sam; and six great-grandchildren.
