James Maack Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, LLC - Pottstown on Mar. 24, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Herbert Maack, lovingly known by many as Poppy, who left us peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was the most incredible husband, friend, father, father-in-law, and grandfather - a man whose warmth, humor, and kindness touched everyone he met.
Jim was the son of H. Ralph Maack, and Marjorie Raugh Maack, and grew up with his brothers: David, Greg, and Ted. He was a proud graduate of Owen J Roberts High School, class of 1967, where he made a name for himself as an exceptional wrestler. His competitive spirit and strength were not only evident on the mat but also in the way he approached life - with resilience, grace, and unwavering love for his family. Jim went on to wrestle at Elizabethtown College, where he graduated with a degree in business in 1971. After an outstanding collegiate wrestling career Jim was inducted into their athletic hall of fame in 1979.
Jim is survived by Mary Hays Maack, his spouse and best friend of 49 years. He was the devoted father to four amazing children: James Robert Maack (Treasure Edmondson Maack), Andrew Hays Maack (Ariana Barnes Maack) (Michelle Maack - former spouse), Marjorie Maack Rimler (Zachary Rimler), and Steven Hays Maack (Emma Brady Maack). His kids were the pride and joy of his life, and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with them and his nine grandchildren, each of whom he adored beyond measure. Poppy had a unique way of making every grandchild feel like the most important person in the world, and he was sure to tell each one that they were his favorite. He was always quick with a joke, a warm hug, and - of course - a crisp two-dollar bill tucked into their hands as a special reminder of his love.
Beyond his family Poppy had an immense passion for gardening and nature. In retirement Jim lived out his true passion, dedicating almost all his time to beautifying the grounds of Kimberton Golf Club, where he was a co-owner. The golf course, which he referred to as his "Garden of Eden", was his true sanctuary- a reflection of his patience, care, and connection to the world around him. He found peace among the flowers and plants, always tending to them with the same love and dedication he showed his family and friends. If you knew him well enough, there is a good chance a garden or tree is named for you at the club.
Poppy's sense of humor was legendary. He had a way of lighting up any room with his laughter and playful spirit. His ability to make others smile, no matter the situation, was a gift that will be sorely missed.
Poppy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength. Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and the gardens he created. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his beloved wife, his children, his grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on March 31, 2025, 12:30pm at Kimberton Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by donating to his "That's My Tree Fund", which will provide a new garden at the club dedicated to his memory - as Jim would have loved. "One tree at a time, and every tree counts".

Jim was "down to earth" even though born to privledge...we met in 1998 when we first moved to the area from Bucks County to an area farm. With our small blind dog I was seeking a mom n pop real estate office where I could bring my dog, work together, but independently. Jim greeted us warmly, said "long as you don't mind there's a lil poodle here too..." As Brokers in a solo mom & pop shop we sold & rented alot of real estate, met some lifelong friends & clients. Jim was kind to all and very funny too, and I'm sure he will be missed by many...Rest in Peace in the gardens of the heavens, Mr. Maack.
