James M. Malick

James Malick, 67, passed away on January 25, 2026 at his home surrounded by loving family. He was born in Lorain, Ohio on August 21, 1958 to the late Joseph and Helen Malick. The family made their home on W. 14th Street where they raised their five children. Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was the cornerstone of their faith and family activities; all five children attended Nativity.

James graduated from high school in 1976 and earned an associate's degree in civil engineering technology from LCCC in 1978. He was employed by the City of Lorain for 49 years working in the departments of community development, utilities, engineering, and part-time with the Lorain Police Auxiliary.

Early in his career, James obtained a class III water supply certificate from the Ohio EPA and progressed through various city departments. He retired from the full-time position of Water Distribution Superintendent in May of 2025.

He also worked as an auxiliary officer and served as chief for 24 years. In 2006, he was nominated by the Lorain Police Department to receive and was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award. James received a congratulatory letter from President George Bush for civic volunteerism with the Lorain Police Department.

James is survived by the love of his life Paula (nee Rosalez) Malick of 45 years; two children Christopher (Jen) and Gary (Autumn); three grandchildren Dalton, Colton, and Ellie. His wife, children, and grandchildren were the joy of James' life. He is also survived by his brother Jerry (Janet) Malick; sister Maria (Tom) Gray; his in-laws the Rosalez family; and nephews and a niece.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph Malick, Jr. and John Malick.

James was a member of Nativity BVM Church, Fraternal Order of Police Associates – Lodge #46, and a lifetime member of the American Water Parks Association.

Private services will be held at Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral and Cremation Center in Amherst, Ohio and he will be privately laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in James' memory to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 418 W 15th St, Lorain, OH 44052
