SFC (Ret) James Edward “Rocky” Marshall, Sr. 76, of Fort Mitchell, AL passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 6, 2024, at the Piedmont Regional Hospital in Columbus, GA
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm EST on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Mr. Marshall was born August 16, 1947, in Altoona, PA, son of the late Milton Marshall and Sarah Walters Marshall. He served our country honorably in the United States Army for 22 years, serving three tours in the Vietnam War (82nd Airborne). He was awarded numerous ribbons, medals, and decorations. After retirement, he owned Rockies Bar and Grill in Ft.Mitchell. He enjoyed watching all sorts of sports with his son, Jimmy, (He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers), but his greatest joy was spending time with all his family. Rocky was a certified pilot and culinary chef. He traveled all around the world and loved to play golf. He was a GREAT Father and family man.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Marshall; wife, Melva, and three brothers, Scott Marshall, Kim Marshall and Tom Marshall.
He is survived by his son, James Edward Marshall, Jr. and long-time girlfriend, Della Canales; one brother, Craig Marshall; a niece, Brooke Chestang, her husband Jeffery and their children Ryleigh Jane and Jackson Scott; Daughter-in-law, Diane; grandchildren, Sierra Marshall, Megan Haworth, Stephen Rhodus, Michael Shepard, Cristobal Canales, and Tiffany Canales; numerous other loving family members and many friends.
