James David Martin, affectionately known as Ray, of Richwoods, Missouri, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 84. Born on March 2, 1940, in Eminence, Missouri, Ray cherished his roots along the Current River where he grew up, cultivating a love for the beauty of nature and the warmth of family.

Ray had a heart of gold, known for being a soft, gentle soul who loved deeply and selflessly. His family regarded him as a steadfast rock, someone who always provided support and unconditional love. He was a devoted husband, Dad, Pawpaw, and Brother.

Throughout his life, Ray enjoyed a variety of interests and hobbies that brought him joy. He found pleasure in listening to western audio books and old country music, as well as conversing with his Alexa machine. His passion for woodworking allowed him to create cherished items for his family. Ray had a profound appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping at Hazel's Park in Blackwell. Family gatherings filled his heart with delight, especially the sound of his grandchildren playing and laughing.

Ray's love for life extended to his vegetable garden, as well as traveling with his family, making annual vacations to various destinations. Another joy of Ray’s was driving around during the Christmas season looking at the many colorful Christmas lights.

He is survived by his wife Mildred "Millie" Martin; six children: David (Kim) Martin, Danny (Lisa) Martin, Brenda (Darrell) Herrington, Glenda (Linnie) Wideman, Dianel Harmon, and Dee (Melvin) Rhives; as well as 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved so much. Ray is also survived by his siblings: Suda Waser, Bill (Cecilia) Martin, and Stanley (Donna) Martin; his son-in-law Larry Bourbon; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Martin; his first wife, Ruth Marie Martin; his daughter, Tina Bourbon; his grandson, James Wideman; great-grandson, Linkin Wideman; great granddaughter, Nevaeh Wideman; and his sisters, Tina Walker and Thelma Warren.

A visitation to honor Ray's life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at DeClue Funeral Home in Potosi. A funeral service will follow beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment and final prayers will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Lonedell, Missouri.
