James Allen Martin, a loving spouse, parent, sibling, and friend, left this world peacefully on March 30, 2025, in Stevensville, Michigan. Born on October 14, 1941, in Ashland, Ohio, James's life was a testament to the joy and laughter he brought into the lives of those around him. He was a beacon of faith and humor, remembered by all who knew him as loving, faith-filled, and funny.
James was the cherished spouse of Janet (Quick) Martin, with whom he shared a life full of love and companionship. He was the proud son of the late Harvey and Annie (Weaver) Martin and grew up surrounded by the affection of his siblings, Chet (R.A.) Martin, Lee (Charlotte) Martin, Nelson (Diane) Martin, the late Dennis (Debbie) Martin, Lois (Keith) Miller, Carolyn Saxon and Vera Rudolf. As a father, he instilled values of love and laughter in his daughters, Laura (Rex) Butts and Jamie (Louie) McGarvey, grandchildren; Caryn Butts, Jared Butts, Jackson McGarvey, Cady McGarvey who will carry his legacy forward. He is now reunited with his infant grandson, Kenneth James Butts, who passed August 2, 2002.
A graduate with an Associate's Degree, James's professional life was characterized by his dedication and hard work. He spent many years at a local lumber yard as a receiving supervisor, where he was known for his strong work ethic and ability to connect with his colleagues. His commitment to community was evident through his service to Niles Church of Christ. James often led the congregation in song and also drove the joy bus for children going to church.
In his youth, James was an accomplished athlete, contributing to his high school baseball team's state championship with an integral catch that clinched the title. This early achievement foreshadowed the determination and spirit he carried throughout his life.
James's passion for trains reflected his appreciation for the journeys of life, and he could often be found engrossed in a book or cheering for his beloved Cleveland Indians. His ability to connect with people was unparalleled; he never knew a stranger and could easily turn a chance meeting into a lasting friendship.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation have been asked to consider Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
A service to remember and celebrate James will take place Saturday, June 7, 2025, 11 a.m. at the Niles Church of Christ, 1515 Huron Street, Niles, Michigan.
Photos condolences, and memories can be left for James' family at www.BrownFuneralHomeNiles.com.
His sense of humor was infectious, and he had an exceptional talent for finding joy in the simple things. Whether it was watching a baseball game or sharing a laugh with family and friends, James's presence was a source of comfort and happiness.
As we bid farewell to James Allen Martin, we reflect on a life well-lived, filled with moments of love, faith, and laughter. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the echo of his laughter will forever resonate in the hearts of those he loved. James's life was a beautiful journey that touched many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
