James "Dickie" Mayeux, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on May 13, 2025, surrounded by family and love. Dickie was born in Plaucheville, Louisiana and was a resident of Fairhope, Alabama.
Dickie was a lifelong educator. He was a natural born mathematician and loved to expand the minds of his students! He was a teacher, principal, and president of the school board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curley Mayeux and Beatrice Dufour Mayeux. He was brother to the late Gloria Plauche, Marlene Strode, Fred Mayeux, Clyde Mayeux, and Ned Mayeux. He is survived by his daughter, Missy Mayeux Will (married to Bob); his granddaughters, Emma and Ava Guitterrez; and his sisters, Janice Goudeau, Louanna Evans, and Sandra Dours. He was a devoted father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He loved his family and was a loyal friend.
Dickie was always ready with a story or a joke in an effort to make people smile. His corny wit always seemed to brighten someone's day. To know him was to truly love him. His generosity knew no bounds. He would have given anyone the shirt off of his back.
He was an avid gardener, and a "walking farmer's almanac". His knowledge of agriculture was vast. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was proud to have served in the Korean War as a Tank Battalion Leader.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 1 PM with services to commence at 2:30 PM.
Dickie will be dearly missed by all. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service.
