James "Big Jim" A. Mayne, 86, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Charlotte "Lottie" Mayne, passed away on December 26, 2025. Born on June 13, 1939, in Belfast, Ireland, he was the son of the late James and Jane Mayne.
James, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, lived a life rooted in family and faith.
Born in Belfast, Ireland, James immigrated to America in 1960, where he soon married the love of his life, Lottie. Together they built a life grounded in hard work and devotion to family. James spent many years working for UPS until his retirement in 1996.
After retiring, James embraced a peaceful and quiet life. A longtime New York Yankees fan from his years living in New York, he delighted in taking his family to yearly games, creating memories that will be carried on for generations. He also enjoyed traveling with his family to the Jersey Shore and Cape Cod, places that brought him great happiness.
James was deeply committed to his faith and community. He volunteered as an usher at Saint Agnes Church in Milford, where he was also an active member of the Men's Club. He generously gave his time to the Beth-El Center and was a proud 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, where he especially enjoyed playing pool with fellow members.
Above all else, James was a family man. Proud of his Irish heritage, he often sang Irish songs to his grandchildren, sharing stories and tradition. He was a kind, dedicated, and loving presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his legacy lives on through them.
James is survived by his children, James A. (Malissa) Mayne of Wallingford, Michael Mayne of West Haven, and Karen (Christopher) Crego of Milford; his grandchildren, Nicholas Rushworth, Melissa (Benjamin) Spilka, Dr. Riley Mayne, and Ian (Kayli) Mayne; his great grandchildren, Jaxon, Nicholas, and Claire; his sisters-in-law, Josie Morris of Belfast, Ireland, and Bridie (Frankie) Hughes of Belfast, Ireland; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. James is predeceased by his sisters, Patsy Greeves, Ethna Rutherford, and Chrissy Moley.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to his caregivers Elaine, Tamisha, and Jennifer, for their hard work and dedication to James and well as the staff at The Connecticut Hospice.
