James McAlevey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vander Plaat Funeral Home - Wyckoff on Aug. 18, 2022.
Jim is survived by his loving high school sweetheart, wife, and best friend Toni. They enjoyed fifty-seven wonderful years together. He was the father of two deeply treasured sons who called him 'Big Guy', Jim Jr. who lives in Florida with fiancé Anne and Billy who predeceased him in 1991. Jim is further predeceased by his parents, James and Florence McAlevey and his in-laws, Anthony (Swift) and Lucy Sodora. Jim has a sister Carol, brother-in-law Paul and nieces Sarah and Jenna, whom he cherished.
The pride and joy of Jim's life are his grandchildren Ellen and Jimmy III. They, along with Kristen and Josh cared deeply for Jim. A shining light in his life, Jim's beautiful great granddaughter Isabelle, is a blessing Jim was fortunate enough to enjoy for three years. Izzy is pictured here with Jim.
Jim married into a huge Italian family who he adored: Sister-in-law Sis and her children Mary Lou, Bud, and Linda and their spouses Jean Pierre and Carol, sister-in-law Laura, brother-in-law Bob and their children, Lisa, Bob, and Karen and their spouses Mike, Jeanine, and Pat. Jim loved them all, along with his many great and great-great nieces and nephews so very much.
There were so many wonderful friends throughout the years. We wish they could all be named as they are in our hearts always.
Jim fought a brave battle for the past six months and never complained. He said, "These are the cards I was dealt, and I will do the best I can with them."
A funeral service mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 23rd at noon at Saint Elizabeth Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. The burial will be private at the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
In lieu of flowers, please consider doing an act of kindness in Jim's memory.

We are so sorry to hear of Jim's passing this week. As cousins, we have not shared as much of our lives as adults as we in our youth, but Toni's, and his children's and his grandchildren's love are proof of a life splendidly achieved. We send loving thoughts and strength to them and to Carol and her family in this time of grief.
