James George McClain, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA, at the age of 87. Born on August 29, 1938, in Philadelphia, he led a life filled with love, dedication, and hard work.
James had a profound impact as an aircraft mechanic, where his skill and work ethic truly shone. His hands were not just tools for repairing; they were instruments of creativity and problem-solving, helping keep the wheels of life turning for those around him. Over the years, James expanded his talents across many fields. He was an owner and operator of an 18-wheeler, navigating the open road with the same dedication he brought to every endeavor. A finished carpenter and welder, he built and crafted with precision and pride, leaving behind work that was both functional and beautiful. As a licensed pilot with several certificates, he not only took to the skies himself but also shared his passion for aviation by owning a flying club. His appreciation for craftsmanship extended to preserving the past, storing and caring for antique cars with the same attention to detail he brought to all he did. In every role he took on, James carried a steadfast commitment to excellence and a deep sense of purpose.
His service to the country was marked by a tenure in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably from January 25, 1957, to December 9, 1960, reaching the rank of A2C. This experience deeply influenced his character, instilling values of discipline, respect, and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
Family was everything to James. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, who stood by his side through every chapter of their life together. Their shared journey was one of companionship and mutual respect, filled with laughter and cherished memories. James was the proud father of Lori Le McClain (Keven Kenny), Kelli Ledin, Jeffrey Zazzara (Stacey), and Michele Druding (the late John). His legacy is also carried on by his 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and supported.
In addition to his immediate family, James is remembered fondly by his siblings, Kitty and Marion, and is survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss his gentle spirit and unwavering support.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate James's life at Hoffmann Meyers Givnish Funeral Home, located at 1770 Brown Ave., Bensalem, PA, 19020, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
